Bruce McLaren was the youngest man ever to win a Formula 1 World Championship Grand Prix when he founded his own team in 1963. He had a very clear vision: that he and his hand-picked group of colleagues could make better, faster cars than their established rivals.

The team's inventiveness and passion for detail quickly began to fulfil that ambition. McLaren's first racing car, the M1A sportscar, broke the lap record on its race debut in 1964 – and then claimed their first win two weeks later. From small beginnings in a workshop at the end of one of Heathrow Airport's runways, the McLaren team began an incredible winning streak in international sportscar racing, Formula 5000, Formula 2, Indycars and Formula 1. Four decades, over 680 race wins, eight Formula 1 Constructors Championships and 12 Drivers' Championships later, we are more than just a racing team. Operating from the stunning and award-winning McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) near Woking, the McLaren Group encompasses an exciting range of ultra-high-technology businesses whose growth is based on our founding values: innovation, creativity, imagination and a commitment to excellence. We exist to win.

We were the first team to bring full carbon fibre chassis construction to F1 in 1981, and in 2011 McLaren Automotive brought this technology out to the world of low-volume elite sportscars with the revolutionary 'MonoCell' which underpins the new MP4-12C and 12C Spider performance cars. McLaren Electronics supplies control systems to the entire F1, Indycar and NASCAR Sprint Cup grids.

McLaren Marketing continues to break new ground in the art of maximising value for our partners, while Absolute Taste showcases the science of great food, catering for celebrities and international sports stars as well as the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team. McLaren Applied Technologies translates our core competences into wins in both sport and business, most recently helping Team GB's elite athletes to a record medal haul in cycling, sailing, rowing, canoeing and wheelchair sports at the 2012 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.
