My interest in watches started about 25 years ago* [see note below] as an avid collector, who enjoyed discovering unusual vintage watches. Once my collection grew too big, I was forced to depart with some of these items, after having taken the necessary care to ensure these were in mint condition, when I resold them. The response I received from the buyers was so overwhelming that it made me pursue the restoration and resale of vintage watches further.
In 2005, with a passion to sell vintage, unique watches to collectors, I pursued my interest with an online shop. Since 2008, I have turned this passion into a full-time business and expanded my portfolio to include new brands and/or types of watches. The collection that is currently available is broad and I hope it meets even the most demanding buyer’s taste, appreciating beautiful vintage watches.
Since June 2011, LOCALTIME LTD has opened its first brick-and-mortar retail location in one of Nicosia’s [Capital of Cyprus] most known avenues.
LOCALTIME LTD is on a healthy growth path and continues to seek new opportunities to further expand its portfolio with selective judgment of collections that would fit nicely in the existing line of products.
My personal fascination with watches started when my father [Socrates] passed on to me his father's [Thoukidides] pocket watch after my grandfather passed away. My grandfather was a man of very limited means who, during the hard years of WW2 and in order to be able to support his family, travelled to Egypt to work as a labourer at the Suez Canal [connecting the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea].
You can imagine my surprise when I opened the box [the watch is still in its original case] to find an 1870's solid silver pocket watch with a beautiful porcelain dial and housing a movement with 3 bridges.
I did not have the chance to ask my grandfather before he passed away how he afforded to buy this watch, because I did not know he had it [he always wore a modest "Pierpont" wristwatch which I have also restored].
I can only dream that, like myself, my grandfather also appreciated the finer horological things in life.
